The council has released a statement on the budget that was set today. Overall it’s good news for members and a vindication of UNISON’s anti cuts campaign. Representatives from the branch attended a meeting with the chief officers of the council, along with other trade unions, this morning. We had hoped that details of the services and jobs that will be affected by the budget cuts would be provided at the meeting. However, this was not the case and we will now need to wait until the full council meets on Thursday to get any idea of the effects on members. We have written to the council to express our concerns over lack of consultation and information for staff. We did learn that all proposed savings for Social Work will now be considered by the Joint Integration Board for Health and Social Care, rather than the council. What this means for the people affected by the proposals is not clear yet. We have requested further consultation and as soon as we have any detailed information we will pass it to you....

For members waiting on news from the job re-evalation project, the process is now in the final stages. Whilst its not possible to say with any certainty when the outcome will be known, (mainly because of the huge amount of information and people involved), we are hopeful that it wont take too much longer. The meeting will be held on 20th February 2016 at 10.30m in Bentley Hotel, 19 High Road, Motherwell ML1 3HU. Tea/Coffee and morning rolls will be available from 9.30am A meal will be provided after the meeting and there will also be access to a bar where members are invited to enjoy a more relaxed area to chat with stewards and branch officers. It is imperative to the democracy of our branch that we have as many members as possible at the meeting. Difficult times are ahead for us all and we need to pull together and be as involved in branch business as we possibly can. If you wish to submit a motion to the AGM you should write to Alan Love, Branch Chairperson, at the branch address no later than 12th February 2016 with the exact wording of the motion that you wish to be considered and any supporting paperwork (if appropriate).
