Your Branch

Branch history

Welcome to the website of Unison North Lanarkshire Branch. We are a branch of 7,000 members covering 27 employers, and are based in Dalziel Building, Scott Street, Motherwell.

Our branch was formed after Local Government reorganisation in 1996 and has since then been involved in industrial relations with our biggest employer, North Lanarkshire Council. We also have involvement in Further Education and the Voluntary Sector and are proud to represent the varied work forces that we do.

Structure of the Branch

Our branch is member led, meaning that we are guided by our membership in every big decision that we make, be it branch elections or final decisions on negotiations with the employers. Underneath the membership sits the Branch Committee (BC) who run the branch on a day to day basis. The BC is made up of elected officers and the convenors and vice convenors of the stewards committees. This set up allows stewards to report issues through their stewards committees and if required, gain access to or raise issues with the BC through their convenors.

The BC is made up of many different type of Branch Officers, who specialise in certain areas. These officers include the Secretary, Chair, Treasurer, Publicity, Equalities, Health & Safety, Service Conditions and Depute Service Conditions. In addition to their individual roles, the branch negotiating team is made up of Branch Officers and the convenors. The branch is also supported by full time officials from Unison Scotland, namely the Regional Organiser, Area Organiser and Local Organiser.
