UNISON is aware of local press reports about privatisation of home support jobs. The article is misleading, scaremongering and unnecessarily worrying. There is NO indication that the council are making any moves to privatise jobs and they have assured us of this repeatedly.
The Home Support Workers in UNISON ran a brilliant and successful anti privatisation campaign during the cuts consultation period. The campaign highlighted the overwhelming public support that council-run Home Support services have. That campaign paid off and the council announced that privatisation was off the table. Obviously we will be keeping a very close eye on developments for home support as we do for all jobs.
